WHO WE ARE

 

We are Tagged Theatre, a group of 6 women who create work surrounding taboos and stigmas that the younger generation face within today's society. Our aim is to simply create healthy conversations based on the themes of our work.

We aim to make work that speaks to the younger generation.
We want to nurture and spread awareness about important issues that surround young people.
We want to make work that reflects real problems and tells real stories.
As a company we will work hard, turn up and have fun with our work.

MADDY JOHNSTON

Performer - Facilitator - Director -Production Manager

York, 24

Maddy is a graduate student with an undergraduate degree in Theatre Studies and a Masters Degree in Applied Theatre at York St John University. Influenced by Baz Kershaw, Maddy's research practice is grounded by; identity, the socio-political factors of performance and the ideological transaction between audience member and performer. Her contribution to Tagged Theatre Company focuses on the elements mentioned above, as well as the awareness and understanding of the ethical issues we discuss within our creative process.

LAURA CASTLE

Performer - Facilitator - Director - Website Manager

Laura is a graduate student with an undergraduate degree in Theatre Studies and a Masters Degree in Applied Theatre at York St John University. Laura is interested in young people's mental health and how much today's society can affect that. She loves to use new facilitation techniques in workshops to allow young people to feel comfortable speaking out and this is something she can achieve through Tagged Theatre. Laura also works as a radio host and so has a big passion for communication, be that on air or in the studio with the theatre company and young people.

ANNIE CHAVE

Annie graduated university in 2019 with a degree in Drama, Education and Community. Her practice surround reminisce theatre and work alongside elderly and dementia. Alongside Tagged, Annie works with Youth theatre groups and has recently started working in the care sector, where she is creating work and activities for and with the elderly. However with Tagged, she feels it is really important to open up taboo subjects with younger generations and enable them to feel comfortable with talking about any issues or concerns they have, and feels theatre is a great way to do this.

JESS WILKINS

Performer - Facilitator - Director - Schools Liaison

Jess is a graduate in Theatre. Jess has an interest around socially engaged theatre and creating work which retells the stories of communities which are often overlooked from society. She has a passion for working with children, and enjoys delivering workshops to children and young people, facilitating and using theatre to help others express themselves and find their identity. She has worked with drama and dementia and has an interest in reminiscent theatre.

Jess is a keen actress and has performed in many shows, including the York Mystery Play's 'The Remorse of Judas'.

LIV RATCLIFFE

Performer - Facilitator - Director - Designer

Liv is a theatre graduate from York St. John University whose work focuses a lot on auto/biography. Liv’s practice is often inspired by the stories and lives of others and herself, feminism and mythical creatures, as well as focusing on themes of mental health and a love for musical theatre. She aims to contribute to Tagged by bringing a feminist look on how we can broach subjects while being inclusive of all peoples beliefs. Liv is also the designer for Tagged and her recent creative expression has been shown through her art.

EIBHLIS O'MALLEY

Performer - Facilitator - Director -

Blog Manager

Eibhlis graduated from York St John University in 2019, earning herself a BA hons degree in drama and theatre. During the past 4 years she has created several shows using comedic styles such as clowning to create thoughtful pieces of feminist work, taking enjoyment in devising and directing shows. She is also passionate in writing blogs, specifically looking into how we can utilise creativity in our every day life to benefit our mental health and our relationship with the world.

Eibhlis feels that Tagged theatre company raises important issues in our times and that the company provides a safe environment in which to discuss these topics and to question them.
