One of these techniques is floor plan. Floor plan involves bringing all images, props, costume and material we have collated through the process so far and putting it in the space. Then, one by one the performers can get up and enter the space. Once entered they must create an image, this could be anything from performing a piece of text, recycling an original image or creating a brand new one with or without the other materials in the space.
During our version of floor plan we created a magazine dress for Maddy, which then acted as a nice transition to a piece of material we had already created named ‘Headlines’. Within the space were also 4 rants that individually we had all written about body image, through floor plan Eloise decided to pick up random props from the floor (a bra for her head an a roll of cling film to act as a baton) and stood on the chair to continue to read her rant. This moment was pivotal for us as although the image was visually comedic, the contrast between the way she looked and the words she said was honest and impactful. One by one each of us started repeating certain phrases she had used that were particularly poignant to us, and thus we created the ‘Rant’ scene which ended with complete exhaustion due to the empowering nature and passion we felt.
This technique had really allowed us to get to grips with the material we wanted to make and therefore aided our process in creating and shaping material for our final show.
