I Don't Think You're Ready - A Reflection

Through our process in devising ‘I Don’t Think You’re Ready’, we as a company have grown massively in body confidence. We have become the body confident superheroes that we set out to be, and to inspire.

By creating an installation, previous to the performance, where we bared ourselves not only sought out to show different body types and empower others, it also helped to empower ourselves. As a theatre company, we have all agreed that if you told us we would be performing a piece such as this, in which we showed more of our bodies to families, friends and strangers, we would have said no way. But the journey, which we have taken as a group feels just as empowering as the performance we had originally set out to make.

With Tagged being a cast of four women, our piece held feminist perspectives. Although we aimed for the elements within the performance to resonate with both genders, we were aware that they might resonate more with women of the younger generation, as many of our stories were either autobiographical or came from other women. This is not to say that these kind of issues are not held to men also, however as a company we felt we could only express truthfully the female perspective.

It is our mission to empower and inspire the younger generation to feel comfortable with the bodies they live in. With some of the feedback we have received from our most recent performances, it is clear that we have completed our mission for some, and helped people to become a step close to also becoming a body confident superhero. However, the journey is not yet over for Tagged, and we are hoping to tour ‘I Don’t Think You’re Ready’ to schools and youth theatres. Keep your eyes peeled, because now…

WE’RE WAITING FOR YOU!
